A very special announcement

Hello, everyone.

If you didn’t know already, I’m part of Windrush, when thousands of Jamaicans – my parents included – travelled to Britain on HMS Windrush to seek better opportunities for themselves and their families. I didn’t arrive on the renowned boat – my mother and father called for us some two years later once they were settled in Britain – but I still consider myself part of the same generation.

It was a strange time in a foreign land –as well as shockingly cold in the depths of an English winter to boot! – and the only reminder of home was the delicious food that my mother cooked at our new two-up, two-down house in inner-city Birmingham. I can still remember the smells emanating from the kitchen as fondly as I can the flavours!

That’s why I’m thrilled to announce the launch of Flavours of the Windrush – an exciting new collection of lovingly prepared meals – which will launch online on my farm shop and through Ocado, in selected Tesco stores, and in Co-op stores nationwide shortly after. Inspired by its historic namesake event – which celebrates its 75th anniversary next year, no less – the dishes take their culinary cues from the far-flung tastes of the Caribbean. Think warmth, depth and spice! There are three flavours to choose from: Jerk Chicken, Curried Mutton and Sweet Potato Curry. All are made with quality ingredients and expert know-how – and all come with my personal stamp of approval!

Jerk chicken

I’m delighted to be able to share a delicious taster of my homeland with my customers – and I can’t wait to hear what you think once you’ve had a forkful.

Enjoy the day.
