Properly stored, Parmesan Reggiano can retain its flavor and texture for an extended period, typically up to 4-6 weeks. Parmigiano Reggiano, often referred to as Parmesan, is a delicious Italian cheese with a rich, nutty flavor and a crumbly texture. It is a versatile cheese that can be used in a variety of ways. Here are some serving suggestions for Parmigiano Reggiano:

  1. Cheese Platter: Serve sliced or grated Parmigiano Reggiano on a cheese platter with some fresh fruits, nuts, and a selection of cured meats. It pairs well with grapes, pears, walnuts, and prosciutto.
  2. Pasta: Grate Parmigiano Reggiano over pasta dishes like spaghetti, fettuccine, or lasagna. The cheese adds a savory and salty flavor to the dish. Mix it with some melted butter and toss it with freshly cooked pasta for a simple and delicious meal.
  3. Salads: Sprinkle grated Parmigiano Reggiano over green salads or Caesar salads. It adds a burst of flavor and a nice texture to the salad. You can also use it in pasta salads or grain salads for added richness.
  4. Risotto: Stir in grated Parmigiano Reggiano at the end of cooking risotto to add creaminess and depth of flavor. It works well with mushroom risotto, asparagus risotto, or any other variety you prefer.
  5. Soups: Garnish your favorite soups, such as minestrone or tomato soup, with grated Parmigiano Reggiano. The cheese will melt into the hot soup and enhance its taste.
  6. Bruschetta: Top toasted baguette slices with fresh tomatoes, basil, and grated Parmigiano Reggiano for a delicious bruschetta. Drizzle some olive oil and balsamic glaze for extra flavor.
  7. Roasted Vegetables: Sprinkle grated Parmigiano Reggiano over roasted vegetables like asparagus, Brussels sprouts, or cauliflower before serving. The cheese adds a wonderful umami taste and makes the veggies more indulgent.
  8. Pizza: Use Parmigiano Reggiano as a topping for homemade or store-bought pizza. It pairs well with other cheeses like mozzarella and adds a distinctive flavor to the pizza.

Remember, Parmigiano Reggiano is best when freshly grated, so it’s recommended to buy a wedge and grate it yourself for the best flavor. Enjoy experimenting with this delicious cheese in various dishes!
