Keep the cheese wrapped tightly in its original packaging or in aluminum foil to protect it from moisture and odors. Store it in the refrigerator at a temperature between 36°F to 40°F (2°C to 4°C). Properly stored, Parmesan Reggiano can retain its flavor and texture for an extended period, typically up to 4-6 weeks. For longer-term storage, you can also grate or shred the cheese and freeze it in an airtight container or freezer bag. Frozen Parmesan Reggiano can maintain its quality for several months.
