The Black Farmer unsmoked streaky bacon comes from the belly of pork. It is cured with a minimal amount of salt and brown sugar. Our outdoor bred streaky bacon has relatively low levels of fat, but plenty of marbling in the meat for that succulent flavour. It has already proved a popular addition to our range. Unsmoked streaky bacon is delicious on its own. It also adds fantastic flavour to finely chopped vegetables as a base for sauces and stews. Use it to keep larger joints like whole chickens and venison haunches from drying out during cooking.

Our unsmoked streaky bacon is high quality and carefully cured. It is very different from varieties which tend to shrivel and release a lot of water. Quality meat tastes better, and we have always believed that high-welfare, free range meat is worth the effort.

 

Our free range pork comes from the best, local suppliers. We have always been very selective. We source local meat from farms in Wiltshire and Somerset, and make sure that we get the very best and most sustainable breeds for the season. At every stage, we promote traditional, sustainable farming practices that make for happy pigs and delighted customers.  Free range practices make for happier, healthier pigs and result in a far more delicious product. Even the best meat still requires expert preparation, so we work with master butchers who ensure our bacon is immaculate. We never take short cuts and our insistence on such methods is central to maintaining the quality you have come to expect from The Black Farmer.

 

The Black Farmer unsmoked streaky bacon will stay fresh for a good while. If you choose to freeze it, make sure you defrost it thoroughly before cooking. The easiest way is simply to leave in the fridge overnight.

Cooking Instructions:

  • STEP 1

    Put the bacon in a non-stick frying pan in a single layer. Top with another heavy pan or frying pan that fits snugly into the pan on top of the bacon. If it’s not very heavy, top with another pan, or anything heatproof and weighty.

  • STEP 2

    Fry on a medium-low heat for 10-15 mins until golden and super-crispy. Check the bacon halfway through cooking – increase the heat slightly if there’s lots of liquid in the pan, and flip the bacon over. Keep cooking until the bacon is uniformly golden and crisp.

  • STEP 3

    Drain on kitchen paper before adding to sandwiches or crumbling over salads or soups.

     

This product has a shelf life of 5 days from the date of delivery.
