Along with salt fish, Ackee is the national dish of Jamaica. It’s a versatile ingredient that when served with salt fish, is often accompanied by breadfruit, hard dough bread, dumplings, fried plantain, or boiled green bananas. It’s also often eaten with rice and peas, or white rice. Ackee can also be used in soups and desserts such as cakes and custards.  Ackee is firm and oily to the touch when raw and soft when cooked, when it becomes smooth and tends to melt in your mouth.
