Here’s cooking instruction for a Wiltshire Honey Roasted Ham Joint:
1. Preheat your oven to 180°C (350°F) or as directed on the packaging of the ham joint.
2. Remove the packaging from the ham joint, but keep any glaze or sauce that comes with it.
3. Place the ham joint in a roasting pan or a baking dish with the fatty side facing up. If the joint is skin-on, score the skin in a crisscross pattern with a sharp knife.
4. If the ham joint comes with a glaze or sauce, apply it evenly over the surface of the ham. If it doesn’t come with one, you can make a simple glaze by combining honey, mustard, and a little brown sugar.
5. Cover the ham joint loosely with aluminum foil to prevent it from drying out during cooking.
6. Place the roasting pan in the preheated oven and cook according to the weight of the ham joint. As a general guideline, cook the ham for about 25 minutes per pound (450 grams). However, always follow the specific cooking instructions provided with your ham joint for accurate cooking times.
7. About 20 minutes before the end of the cooking time, remove the foil to allow the ham to brown and caramelize.
8. Check the internal temperature of the ham joint using a meat thermometer. The ham is fully cooked when the internal temperature reaches 60°C (140°F). If it hasn’t reached that temperature yet, continue cooking and check the temperature every 10 minutes.
9. Once the ham joint reaches the desired temperature, remove it from the oven and let it rest for about 10 minutes before carving.
10. Carve the ham into slices and serve warm. It pairs well with roasted vegetables, mashed potatoes, or a fresh salad.
Remember, these instructions are just a general guideline, so it’s always best to follow the specific instructions provided by the manufacturer of your ham joint for the most accurate cooking times and temperatures. Enjoy your Wiltshire Honey Roasted Ham!
