HOW TO HOST THE BIG CHRISTMAS BREAKFAST

Hello, everyone.

I don’t know about you, but even I can get stressed at the thought of friends and family descending for days at a time over Christmas, whether it’s the countless ideas for mealtimes or the sheer cost of entertaining.

My secret to keeping both hosts and guests happy over the season? The big Christmas breakfast! Not only does serving-up something magical in the morning start the day off right, but it’s a clever way of cooking just two meals per day, so long as you breakfast later rather than earlier.

With plenty of time to browse and buy in the big build-up, I’ve rounded-up the best gifts for the special people in your life, from foodies to spa-lovers. Rest assured, there’s something for everyone this season.

Make a meal of it by setting the table as you would the main event – a freshly-pressed tablecloth, proper crockery and cutlery, candles and a centrepiece – and adding a little festive magic with buck’s fizz. All of which helps to set a spectacular scene without too much stress – think of it as a little smoke and a lot of mirrors!

Next, it’s about sorting easy-to-serve breakfast items for no-brainer entertaining. Start with the basics: a loaf of Sourdough Artisan White to slice and spread with Apricot Jam, Blackberry Jam or Strawberry Jam; a supply of Regular Porridge Oats to pop in the centre of the table and top with a good spoon of Wiltshire Honey; and, of course, plenty of Taste of the Caribbean Ground Coffee to heal any hangovers and to keep everyone going.

If you’re hosting for more than a couple of days, I suggest alternating between a continental breakfast, a cooked breakfast and variations of both, meaning easy days followed by more effort and so forth. I serve a cooked breakfast on Christmas Eve to set everyone up for the day, offer a continental breakfast on Christmas Eve so nobody’s full ahead of lunch, then make bacon or sausage sandwiches on Boxing Day, followed by toast and coffee on 26th December to see everyone on their merry way! It works well for stress levels and bank balances while the variation keeps things fresh and exciting.
When it comes to a cooked breakfast, stock-up on our award-winning sausages – something a little different like Jerk Chicken Sausages or Sweet Chilli Pork Sausages are sure to go down a storm – together with rashers of bacon that ramp up the flavour: Unsmoked Back Bacon or Smoked Streaky Bacon should do the trick.

With a few star ingredients mixed into your usual grocery shop, you’ll elevate breakfast from everyday to extraordinary, while keeping things low-key but luxurious. Whatever you do, don’t forget to top-up your Tomato Ketchup – ours has no added sugar or salt – for a generous dollop on every plate.

After breakfast, encourage guests to get outside to walk off breakfast, leaving you to gather your thoughts and get the house back in order.

And that, dear friends, is how to host the big Christmas breakfast so it’s fun for everyone.

Let me know how you get on.
