New Guidelines on Coeliac Disease announced

Petition No. 10!

Join me in calling on the Government to help identify and diagnose the half a million people in the UK who are suffering needlessly with undiagnosed coeliac disease. Please help ensure the new guideline, launched May 25, 2009 by NICE (National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence) is quickly taken up by the medical profession.

The new NICE guidelines on coeliac disease, which aim to improve diagnosis rates in children and adults, can be viewed here nice.org, and provide healthcare professionals with a tool to help diagnose and manage the condition, based upon the best available evidence.

I believe this is a really excellent step forward and I hope that as many practitioners as possible will take it on board as soon as possible. The sooner we can stop hundreds of thousands of people suffering needlessly and get them correctly diagnosed the better. I really hope that everyone who suffers with Coeliac Disease or knows someone who does, will get behind the petition to Downing Street to step up diagnosis rates of coeliac disease.
