Morris dancing is one of my passions in life. Until now I have not been able to get as involved as I would like – but now I am determined to bring the delights of this age old rural tradition to a wider urban audience. So watch out Britain, here we come!
I am launching a campaign to popularise Morris dancing amongst our urban neighbours – and am going on tour of major cities to do some dancing! No longer to be seen as the sole preserve of rural folk, this great tradition should be shared and enjoyed by all. My local Dartmoor Border Morris side feature in my new TV commercial, which was shot here on my farm in Devon. A great group of people.
Why am I doing this? I love the tradition, the colour, the dances. Whenever I can I watch Morris sides dancing. It is uplifting and full of laughter, fun and joy. What could be better? There are hundreds of Morris sides in the UK – every one different, with a unique look and personality. Most do wonderful work in raising money and awareness for local charities and I want to celebrate and applaud this.
My tour kicks off in London at Parliament Square on April 7th, so watch this space for news of more events.
