Win!

Enter my competition and be in with a chance to win one of two long weekends on my Devon farm staying in Scarlett’s Barn – and what’s more I’ll be cooking you dinner on one night of your stay! So I’ll be thinking up a menu of my favourite dishes!

10 runners up will win a signed copy of my The Black Farmer cookbook and 25 runners up will win a limited edition The Black Farmer apron.

Winners of the long weekend will make their way deep into the West country on the Devon/Cornwall border. Here you will stay in the delightful ‘Scarlett’s barn’ (named after my daughter) – and featured on Channel 4’s ‘Young Black Farmers’ series where it was the picturesque base for the first The Black Farmer Rural Scholarship.

The farm

I came across my farm, West Kitcham, on a family holiday 12 years ago and it was love at first sight. In the same family for generations, the house was badly run down and in much need of restoration and a lot of TLC. Having restored the main farmhouse, I started work on the traditional stone barns. Scarlett’s barn was first to be renovated as it was in very poor condition. Now well appointed and boasting some of the finest views across the rolling hills of Devon and Cornwall, it nestles in pure tranquility making it the perfect place for a peaceful break. You can shop locally for the finest foods that the region offers, or eat out at award winning local pubs or seafood restaurants on the coast.

The ancient town of Launceston lies just five miles away and is the historic gateway to Cornwall. Its 11th Century Norman Castle, which you can see from the barn, Georgian houses and 16th Century church are well worth a visit.

The local rivers yield fantastic coarse and trout fishing and the Tamar Otter Sanctuary is nearby. The Atlantic coastal towns of Bude and Newquay offer fantastic opportunities for surfing, sandy beaches and spectacular coastal walkways. The famous Eden Project is just half an hour’s drive. Or if you just enjoy peace and quiet – sit out in the garden and take in the views and wildlife around the farm.

I’m looking forward to welcoming you!

Good luck.
